Gnr. William "Bill" Lowes

Gnr. William Lowes, formerly of the Royal Artillery and then No.6 Troop of No.6 Commando from, at least, June 1944.

Gnr. William Lowes was reported as being severly wounded at Angloville Heights (Normandy, France) on 20th August 1944 with gunshot wounds to the stomach and later died from his wounds that same day, aged 21 years.

William was the son of William and Adelaide Edith Lowes, of Highfield, Co. Durham, and was laid to rest in Ranville War Cemetry (Calvados, France). Grave IA.E.17.

The inscription on his headstone reads:

‘Father, in thy gracious keeping. Leave we now they servant sleeping. Amen.’
